The campground is only open in summer, but you can hike on segments 5 or 6 of the Colorado Trail most of the year. The camp is about 1/4 mile off of 285 at Kenosha Pass. It is a first come, first served fee area or RV, trailer, or tent camping. About 21 miles to Fairplay, CO.

Very popular area, and given its proximity to the highway it sees a lot of use. There was quite a bit of trash around, and there can be some large obnoxious groups that camp there. You must reserve a spot with the Forest Service to get a key for the water spigots! Outhouses on site, and the area around is spectacular. Any hikes you do in this area will put you in some of the most lush aspen groves with plenty of wildflowers.

You can also follow the wooden railed fence if you park farther from the entrance. It takes you to the same place and you can get amazing panorama shots there.

Bathroom lines are long.

Also even though you see people parking along through road I would suggest checking for front parking. We parked a mile down the hill and come to find plenty of parking really close to the entrance.

Super busy, people parked all the way out along highway, line for bathrooms, stunning fall colors, 1 1/2 miles in on trail better fewer people

Our sites (11 & 12) were great, with sun in the campsite to warm us in the morning, but evening shade. Easy access to The Colorado Trail on both sides of the highway. Quiet. The dispersed campsites are enticing. The camp host had plenty of firewood. Only negative was that area roads (except right in the campgrounds) are deeply rutted. America needs to fund her great outdoors. ....

Absolutely gorgeous. Please go during the middle of September! The trees and scenery are to die for.
